A roaring bonfire erupts in the target square and lasts 1 full round per caster level (maximum 5 rounds). Any creature in the area of the flames when it is cast, or entering it while it persists, takes 1d4 points of fire damage, and an additional 1d4 each additional round they remain in the area. The additional damage occurs at the beginning of the caster’s turn.

A saving throw is allowed each round of exposure, forcing a creature who saves to take a 5-foot step out of the area. A creature may forgo the save and remain in the area.

Flammable materials burn if the flames touch them. A character can extinguish burning items as a full-round action. If not extinguished, a burning creature (or one whose clothing is burning) will continue to take additional damage exactly as above, even if they leave the spell’s area.
